Description
The count who built the first church went on pilgrimage to Conques. Upon his return he renamed the church Conches and established the church dedicated to St Foy. Rebuilt in the sixteenth century a series of windows were installed in 1500-1515 depicting the Life of Christ, of St Foy, and, at the bottom level, a series of various saints and donors. In the central bottom section is the abbot, Pierre le Vavaseur, kneeling in front of St Peter and St Paul, and adjacent is the Lactation window with Bernard in white cowl holding a crozier and kneeling before the seated Virgin and Child on the left. A scroll has the traditional 'monstra te esse matrem'. The reason he is depicted relates to the proximity of the Cistercian abbey of LaNoe 17 km to the east.
