Description:
One of nine frescos depicting scenes from the life of Bernard from 1482 at the Chapel of St Bernard, Pamparato. Bernard stands in front of the abbey church. He places the 'cappa' part of the cowl over the head of a kneeling novice. He is assisted by a monk who holds an open book, while another monk helps an other novice out of his lay clothes and a third novice waits his turn. The three young men may represent the three Paris students who entered Clairvaux after a sermon Bernard preached at the invitation of the bishop of Senlis. The inscription reads: COMO S. BERNARDO DIEDE LA CAPA A PIU GIOVANOTI. Bernard has 'tuft'. See also WA12-18 & WA20.
