Description:
One of nine frescos depicting scenes from the life of Bernard dated 1482 and in the Chapel of St Bernard, Pamparato. Accompanied by a monk with his hood over his head the nimbed figure of Bernard stands holding a red book in his left hand and with his right hand raised to indicate his refusal of the two bishoprics of Genoa and Milan mentioned in the Golden Legend. These are represented by the two kneeling figures each carrying a mitre. The other sources refer to his decline of five bishoprics, the above plus Langres, Chalons, and Rheims. The inscription reads: COMO FURENO APRESENTATE DUE MITRE CHE NON VOSE ACEPTARE. Bernard has 'tuft'. Seaa also WA12-15 & WA17-20.
