Description:
Fragment of a fresco in the chapel of St Jerome, Santa Maria del Carmine, the decoration of which was completed in 1404 by Starmina, the most important of the adherents of Agnolo Gaddi. As there is also a painting of St Benedict in a black habit (illustrated inb Fremantle, ill 598), this figure of an abbot in a white cowl and with a crozier in the right hand and a book in the left may be taken to represent Bernard.
