Description:
Among a very large number of representations of saints, including a number of Danish saints and founders of religious orders like Francis and Dominic, are these half figures of Bernard on the right in a grey habit and St Benedict on the left in a black habit, both coming out of flowers and both, rather unusually, mitred. Painted in 1522, Bernard has a monstrance in both hands, Benedict a crozier in the right hand and a crucifix in the left. There is only one other example of Bernard in the numerous medieval wall paintings in Danish churches (see WA2).
