Description:
One of the two single plates from Urs Graf's bust-reliquary for St Urban dated 1519. The scene depicts Bernard drinking oil thinking it to be water without any ill effect. Bernard holds out the cup with his right hand and has his left hand over his mouth. The inscription reads: ET OLEI BIBIT SICIENS PRO FONTE LIQORUM ('And thirsting he drinks oil instead of liquid from the fountain'). (See also VA04-6, and VA08-11).
