Description:
One of the six double silver panels from Urs Graf's bust-reliquary from St Urban dated 1519. On the right Bernard holds out his left hand in blessing a possessed woman who is being held by two men. The devil in the form of a flying creature with a long wavy tail is cast out and flies away above the woman. The inscription reads: DEMONA PROCACEM REPVLIT DE VETVLV SANCT' ('With great force the saint expels demons from the old woman'). On the left Bernard lies on his sickbed with the Virgin, St Lawrence and St Benedict appearing. The inscription: FEBRIB' EXCOCT' BERNARD' NVMINA SENSIT ('Overcome by fever Bernard felt the presence of the saints'). (See also VA04-05, and VA07-11).
