Description:
Although this is one of the six double silver panels from Urs Graf's bust-reliquary dated 1519, it only portrays one scene: that of Bernard kneeling before an image of the Virgin in Speyer Cathedral which comes alive before him and is witnessed by the king. The inscription reads: EN XPI EFFIGIES IN SPIRA HVNC EXCIPIT AVENS. O CLEMENS O PIA O DVLCIS MARIA ('Behold the image of Christ in Speyer Cathedral greeting her with O clement, O holy, O sweet Mary'). Signed with the monogram and dagger. (See also VA04, and VA06-11).
