The central panel has a carved figure of the Virgin and Child with God the Father and the Dove representing the Holy Spirit above, and flanked by four carved scenes from the Life of Mary. The wings have, at the top, John the Baptist on the left and Michael on the right, and below the twelve apostles. The predella has the painted figures of four female saints (Margaret, Appolonia, Gertrude, and Dorothy) and the carved figures of four male saints: a holy pope, Bernward of Hildesheim, Bernard, and Francis showing the stigmata.
