Description:
Bernard? Early sixteenth-century carving in oak at the end of a choir stall in the Cistercian church of Loegum
(Locus Dei), said to have been made between 1502 and 1504. There are four figures carved at the ends of the remaining two sets of five choir stalls - Mary, Christopher, this figure usually considered to be Benedict, and a saint with one hand raised in blessing and one hand holding a rosary, said to be Bernard. As he does not have any of the usual attributes it is unlikely to be Bernard, and the figure holding a crozier in his right hand and a book in his left may equally be Bernard or Benedict.
