Description:
Relief from the nuns' abbey of Himmelkron dated 1518. The very much larger figure of a bearded Bernard kneels to receive the body of Christ whose hands are detached from the cross and placed round Bernard's shoulders. Kneeling on the right is Abbess Magdalena von Wirsberg and, behind her, her sister Dorothea von Wirsberg. The arms of Clairvaux surmounted by a mitre are at Bernard's feet, and the arms of Himmelkron are on the right, both held by putti. The inscription above refers to Christ's Embrace of Bernard having removed his arms from the Cross, and that beneath has the name of the abbess.
