One of four scenes from the life of Bernard from the carved stone altarpiece from 1348 in the Church of St Mary in Montblanch dedicated to St Barnabas and St Bernard featuring four scenes of each flanking the two carved standing figures of the two saints. This scene below on the left is of Bernard on his deathbed together with two monks standing, one sitting with a book and one kneeling with his hood over his head. Painted above is a tiny figure representing his soul which is being carried up to heaven by two small angels. The background is decorated with gold stars.By the English sculptor Reinard Fonnell who also did the carvings in the cloister of the Cistercian Santes Creus. See also SC39-41 and SC43.
