Description:
One of four scenes from the life of Bernard from the carved stone altarpiece from 1348 in the Church of St Mary in Montblanch dedicated to St Barnabas and St Bernard and featuring four scenes of each flanking the two carved standing figures of the two saints. The scene at the top on the left shows Bernard's mother Aleth lying on a bed with a dog on top of her depicting the story of her dream that she would give birth to a dog. By the English sculptor Reinard Fonnell who also did the carvings in the cloister at the Cistercian Santes Creus. See also SC40-3.
