Description:
Statue carved in limewood by Master Sixt von Staufen in 1522-24 from the altar of Our Lady of the Mantle (Schutzmantelmadonna) in the Lochener Chapel in Freiburg Cathedral. In this the Virgin is flanked by St Anthony and by Bernard. The standing figure of Bernard holds a book in his right hand. His left hand appears to be pointing but may also previously have held a crozier. The arms of Clairvaux is at his feet.
