Description:
Painted wood sculpture from c 1490 attributed to the Cologne workshop of Tilman van der Burch. Belonged to the nuns who moved to Niederwerth from nearby Koblenz in 1580 and probably brought the statue with them. The cowl is black with the white tunic showing underneath, but the colouring is not original. Bernard has a book with a clasp and decorative metal studs in his left hand, and his right hand is raised. This, however, is modern, and he would originally have held a crozier in this hand.
