Description:
Painting attributed by Berenson to Ludovico Brea from Nice from c 1470-80. One of two diptychs showing a bearded Bernard in a white cowl and holding a gold crozier in his left hand and an open red book in his right hand on the right under a Gothic arch. On the left and separated by a gold column is the bearded figure of St Jerome in a red tunic with a black cloak over and a red cardinal's hat. The other diptych has St Louis of France and St Catherine.
