Painting by Francesco di Giorgio Martini from c 1475 of the nativity with Mary and Joseph and the Baby at their feet watched by two angels on the right and the kneeling figures of Bernard and thomas Aquinas on the left. the painters name 'Francisc. Giorgii pinsit' is on the left and the names of the two saints are inscribed as 'S.B[er]nardus Abbas' and 'S.Thomas d'Aq[ui]no'. Below are the names 'S.Bernardinus' and 'S.Ambrosius'. The small dove next to St Thomas and the book with the monogram of St Bernardino were added in the nineteenth century. Bernard is nimbed and wearing a grey cowl.
