Description:
Large altarpiece by Rodriguez of Toledo with the centre depicting God the Father at the top, the Crucifixion in the centre, and, as the largest section, the Virgin and Child at the bottom, all flanked by six scenes from the life of Christ on each side. The lower central scene is of the Virgin and Child enthroned. On the left Bernard in a black cowl has his hand on the shoulder of an archbishop whose mitre Mary places on his head, while, on the right, Benedict, also in a black cowl, has his hand on the shoulder of a king whose crown is being placed on his head and whom the Infant is blessing. Bernard has 'tuft'.
