Description:
The central panel of the altarpiece painted by Giovanni di Paolo c 1470 which would have represented the Virgin is no longer, but the side panels, with the figures of four standing saints and the predella which includes a scene of the Vision of Bernard (see PA160), have been preserved. On the left Sts Benedict and Mary Magdalen, on the right Galgano and Bernard. Bernard has the hood of his white cowl over his head, a crozier in his right hand and an open book in his left.
