Description:
Probably the left wing of a diptych by the School of Rogier van der Weyden of which the right wing is missing but which would probably have had an image of Bernard. A half-figure of the Virgin with naked Child on her lap. The Child holds the bottom of a cross, the top of which is supported by a small angel. The youthful-looking Virgin bares her left breast which she squeezes with her right hand. The cross alludes to Christ's coming sacrifice, emphasising the idea that he had come into the world in order to lay down his life for the world.
