Description:
Painted by Piero di Cosimo in c 1510 for the chruch of St Francis, Fiesole, and featuring the controversy surrounding the Immaculate Conception, with God the Father blessing the kneeling Virgin in the company of Saints Augustine, Bernard, Francis, Jerome, Thomas Aquinas, and Anselm. The inscription on Bernard's tablet reads: CARO VIRGINIS EX ADAM SUMPTA MACULAS ADAE NON ADMISIT.
