Description:
The predella of the altarpiece painted by Giovanni da Milano c 1360 (see PA149) has scenes from the life of the four saints featured on the altarpiece, Catherine, Bernard, Bartholomew, and Barnabas. Bernard is seated at a desk writing when the Virgin appears to him. The four scenes are described in the inscription: DECOLACIO SANCTE KATERINE, DOCTRINA SANCTI BERNARDI CONFESSORIS, PASIO SANCTI BARTOLAMEI APOSTOLI, PASIO SANCTI BARNABE APOSTOLI. Bernard has 'tuft'.
