Description:
An anonymous Lactation painting of the Flemish School dated c 1520. The twenty-sixth abbot of Baudeloo, Jean van Deynse, in the guise of Bernard kneels on a tiled floor in a church, an open book in his right hand and his crozier under his right arm. The left hand is stretched out to the seated Virgin & Child. The Virgin bares her right breast which she squeezes with her right hand. The tiny figure of a Cistercian monk kneels in prayer in the background.
