Altarpiece painted c 1415 by Anton Peris for the Convent of St Dominic, Valencia, includes a Lactation scene. A youthful Bernard, hands folded in prayer, kneels before a standing Virgin and Child accompanied by a number of angels, all in the same scale. The Virgin bares her breast which she squeezes with he right hand.The scene is in a church beside an altar on which an open book rests. The scene is witnessed by a monk who stands in a doorway behind Bernard.
