Description:
One of eight scenes from the lives of the saints painted in 1432, five of them depicting Bernard, from two side wings of an altarpiece from one of the side chapels built at Maulbronn in 1424, four of them on the inside and four on the outside. The lower picture on the left outside features Christ descending from the Cross to embrace Bernard. Bernard's crozier lies on the ground. At the top of the Cross is the inscription INRI. The small firgure of the monk may be seen on the left, perhaps the monk who witnessed the vision as recorded in the 'Exordium Magnum'. See also PA057-9 and PA061.
