Description:
Painting attributed to Cecco di Pietro who died in 1402 and featuring the burial of Bernard. His bearded figure with the hood of his white cowl over his head lies on a bier covered with a richly decorated brocade cloth. He is surrounded by a number of monks in white habits, two leaning over his body, one with a processional cross, two with candles, one with a thurifer, two nimbed (unidentified) and wearing gold-embroidered copes, one of them reading prayers from an open book, and, in the middle, a monk in a black cowl. The church of Clairvaux is in the background.
