Description:
A Lactation scene from c 1500. Bernard, unusually in a violet-red cowl, with hands clasped in prayer and a crozier under the left arm kneels before the Virgin who presses her breast with her right hand and holds the naked Child on her lap with her left hand. The canopy above her has the inscription 'Ave Regina Celorvh(m)' ('Hail, Queen of Heaven'). Above Bernard is the traditional Lactation inscription 'Monstra te esse matrem'. In the background is an altar and through a doorway a landscape with trees and a church. Bernard has a 'tuft'.
