Description:
The outer side of the wings painted by Joerg Breu in 1500 (seen when the wings are closed) on the left, lower panel, depicts Bernard in a black cowl at field work, kneeling in prayer with a sickle under his arm. Four monks in white tunics and black scapulars are at work cutting corn with sickles and tying it in sheaves. In the background a view of a landscape with houses, a lake, and mountains. In the foreground a small white dog. (See also SC10, PA038-9 & 041-5).
