Description:
Altarpiece made for the Benedictine Abbey of Werden in 1485-90. The inner right-hand wing depicts the Mass of St Hubert (NG 253, ill in Baker & Henry 1995, 431), while the outside right-hand wing has St Jerome accompanied by his lion, St Benedict in black cowl with crozier and reading from an open book, St Giles dressed as a Benedictine abbot with a hind, and Bernard with a crozier under his left arm holding an open red book with both hands from which he is reading. The outside left-hand wing (NG 251 ill in Baker & Henry 1995, 432) features Saints Augustine, Hubert, Ludger (?), and Gereon (?). Bernard has a 'tuft'.
