Description:
A Lactation picture in oil on oak from c 1480, set in a walled garden with a gold background. The standing Virgin with long golden hair and with her crown held over her head by a flying angel holds the naked Child with her left hand while baring her breast with her right hand. The Child's hands are also on the Virgin's breast from which a small jet of milk is directed at Bernard. Bernard, slightly smaller in scale, kneels at her feet, a scroll with 'Monstra te esse matrem' rising above him. Between them are some beautifully painted irises.
