Description:
Bernard? The Virgin, sitting on an elaborate throne, is suckling the naked Child on her lap in the presence of a kneeling abbot. Landscape with a house in the background. This is not a Lactation scene, and the abbot is not necessarily Bernard. The head has been repainted and was formerly that of a Cistercian abbess, probably the donor, and the abbot may therefore also be a donor abbot. Dated 1525-34.
