Bernard? Tiny early sixteenth-century Prayerbook from the Cistercian nuns` abbey of Medingen, probably made by one of the nuns. A nimbed figure in a brown habit kneels before a woman saint who is carrying a basket of eggs, a bird in a dish, and a watering can. Because of the liturgical texts surrounding the image and because of its provenance it probably represents Bernard kneeling before the Virgin. The text of the banderole is `Hec dies quam fecit deus in quo iubet exultemus` from Ps 117, 24. - `This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it`.
