Description:
Miniature in a late medieval Book of Hours alongside a Latin prayer to Bernard beginning 'O alme pater bernarde et ardentissime amator cultor suavitatis et melliflue dulcedenis dei qui es spes et solatium' (O, hail Father Bernard, most ardent lover, devotee of sweetness and of honey-like fragrance of God who art the hope and solace of all those crying to you). Half-figures of a crowned and nimbed Mary and naked Child enthroned and a standing Bernard. Mary squeezes her left breast with her right hand. Bernard in a white cowl has his hands folded in prayer. His crozier with a black staff and gold top and with sudarium attached leans against his left shoulder. The Child is turned towards Bernard. The inscription in gold letters reads 'monstra te esse matrem'
