Description:
The Choir Book in three volumes from the Benedictine abbey of Lorch by Nikolaus Bertschi dated 1511/12 has a half-fugure of a nimbed Bernard in a black cowl in the left margin. He holds a gold crozier in his left hand while his right hand is raised in blessing. The banderole above has the text 'O homo ibi non poterit esse repulsa ubi filius ostendit patri latus et vulnera - Mater ostendit filio pectus et ubera: Hec bernardus abbas claraval(lensis)' (O, man, it is not possible to be rejected where the Son shows his side and his wounds to the Father - the Mother shows to her Son her bosom and her breast. This according to Bernard, abbot of Clairvaux). At Bernard's side are the arms of Clairvaux surmounted by a mitre. The lower margin has two kneeling monks in black cowls with the banderole: 'O pater misericordiarum et deus totius consolationis miserere michi peccatori. Anno domini 1512' (O father of mercies and God of all consolation have mercy on me a sinner).
