The Prayerbook of Bernhard von Waldkirch made in Augsburg by Nikolaus Bertschi in 1516 has a miniature of a nimbed Bernard in a white cowl kneeling before the Virgin, holding a cozier in his right hand and his left hand acknowledging the seated Virgin with a naked child standing on her knees and turned towards Bernard. The Virgin sqeezes her right breast with her left hand sending three jets of milk towards Bernard. A banderole has the usual Lactation inscription 'Monstra te esse matrem'. Out of a window an Amplexus scene appears in the background in a rocky landscape. Here the body of Christ is slumped from the Cross into the arms of Bernard, in this image in a black cowl. In the lower left corner are the arms of Clairvaux surmounted by a mitre. The border has flowers, birds, and angels. Bernard has 'tuft'.
