Description:
Historiated initial in the Missal of Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg painted by Nicholaus Glockendon in 1522-4. Within the initial P(erfice quaesumus domine) - the prayer for the feast of Bernard - the pale lifeless body of Christ with his arms detached from the Cross is slumped and held by the figure of Bernard in a black cowl kneeling before the Cross. Christ's head surrounded by gold rays is only partly visible behind Bernard's head. Bernard's gold crozier lies on the floor with the arms of Clairvaux in front of it.
