Description:
This Venetian manuscript of the Inferno, Purgatoria, and Paradiso from the end of the fourteenth century contains altogether 234 miniatures. The Paradiso illustrations, however, are inferior in quality. Three of these feature Bernard, two in Canto 31 (f 75r & f 75v - see MA381 & MA382) and this one Canto 32 (f 76r). A bearded and nimbed Bernard in a dark brown cowl shows Dante Gabriel kneeling before the Virgin enthroned between angels and members of the Old and New Testament.
