Description:
This Venetian manuscript of the Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso from the end of the fourteenth century contains altogether 234 miniatures. The Paradiso illustrations, however, are inferior in quality. Three of these feature Bernard, two in Canto 31 (this one and f 75r - see MA381) and one Canto 32 (f 76r - see MA383). In the bottom row Dante in a red garment and a nimbed Bernard in a dark brown cowl are on the far left looking up at the Virgin enthroned between musical angels. Four other groups are in this row: a bishop saint with attendants, Francis with two of his friars, Benedict with two of his monks, and Dominic with two of his friars. In the centre row Beatrice is between other saints.
