Description:
Miniature in a Roman Breviary known as the Breviary of Ercole I d'Este has a nimbed and standing Bernard in a purplish-white cowl holding a chain in his left hand at the end of which is a large demon with horns, bats' wings, a tail, and claws with his head turned towards Bernard. Bernard's right hand is pointing to the demon and a black crozier with gold head is leaning on his right shoulder. The scene is a rocky landscape. One of two images of Bernard - see also MA377.
