Description:
Flemish Book of Hours (Use of Rome) with Calendar dated c 1500 probably from Bruges has the Nine Verses of Bernard (f161v-162v) introduced by a full-page miniature with the text under 'Versus doctoris melliflui bernardi'. A nimbed Bernard is standing in a white cowl with an elaborate crozier in his right hand and a green book with a chain at the end of which is a black devil. He stands against a rich red and gold hanging in the open air with a wall and buildings behind. The floral border has a peacock, caterpillar, butterflies etc.
