Description:
Within the ten-line initial 'S' in rosa on a gold background from the beginning of the Preface to the Sermons on the Song of Songs as indicated in red ink above (Incipit expositio sci Bernardi abbatis clarevallensis super cantica canticorum. Incipit prologus) a nimbed Bernard in a frontal position sits at a high lectern on which is an open book. He is addressing three small half-figures of monks holding open books with their backs to the viewer. The one in the middle looks up so that the top of his head and his complete tonsure can be seen. An acanthus border in red, green, blue, and beige highlighted with gold. Bernard has 'tuft'.
