Description:
One of five images of Bernard in a French version of the Golden Legend from c 1500 made for Jane of Burgundy, daughter of Robert, 2nd duke of Burgundy. A nimbed Bernard in a black cowl over a white tunic sits on a faldstool holding a crozier in his left hand and with his left hand on an open book on his lap. He is in a chamber with tiled floor. Behind him is a red hanging with gold decoration, on the left a window and on the right an alcove with a number of books and a roll of parchment. See also MA336 & MA 338-40.
