Description:
One of five images of Bernard in a French edition of the Golden Legend from c 1500 made for Jane of Burgundy, daughter of Robert, 2nd duke of Burgundy. Dressed in a black cowl with his hood partially over his head with a white tunic showing underneath. A crozier leans on his right shoulder and with both hands he holds an open book from which he is reading. He is sitting on a grass seat with wattle around the foot of a tree. On the left is a stream and rocks, on the right a chapel with bell-cot. See also MA337-40.
