In a manuscript of the Golden Legend and Sermons in an Alsatian dialect of German and probably from Strassburg, dated 1362 (the date appears on f 210v). One of 178 images by one hand has a nimbed and bearded Bernard in a grey cowl with a red crozier with gold volute in his right hand and a green book with clasps in his left. The background is green with leaves within a red frame. The text above in red ink 'von namen B'nhardi' indicates that the etymology follows before the bibographical description.
