Description:
Miniature of the Amplexus by the Nuremberg illuminator Nikolaus Glockendon (+1533/4), whose monogram NG is on f 32r, made c 1525 for a Cistercian abbey. Christ's lifeless-looking body is supported by Bernard in a black cowl. Christ's head is partially obscured by Bernard's. Behind Bernard are the arms of Clairvaux surmounted by a mitre. Bernard's crozier lies on the ground. Next to the miniature is a large initial I(n medio ecclesie) in the form of a tree trunk whose branches extend to form the decoration of the border. It is from a Missal at the beginning of the Mass for the feast of Bernard. The composition of the figures is very similar to MA131.
