Description:
One of four images of Bernard on three folios in the Hours of Charles V in Latin and French made in Paris 1510-20 (see also MA321 & MA322). This folio with two miniatures of Bernard has the continuation of the Seven Verses begun on the previous folio with a historiated initial also featuring Bernard (MA322). The lefthand border has a standing Bernard holding an open book with both hands (the psalter) confronted by a standing brown devil with his hands raised. The lower border has a rectangular miniature with the half-figures of Bernard writing with a pen in his right hand and the devil with bat-like wings who is counting with the fingers of his two hands.
