Description:
The fifteenth-century Martyrology has a circular miniature at the feast of Bernard indicated by the letters in red above: 'XII kalendris septembris'. The bearded figure of Bernard in a black cowl and carrying a gold crozier in his left hand lies on a stone slab, his head resting on a yellow pillow. The scene is witnessed by a group of monks in cowls with their heads covered by their hoods. Their cowls are also black, except for one in brown. The background has gold leaves on a red ground.
