Description:
Book of Hours from c 1490 mainly in Latin, with 6 large and 21 small miniatures. At the opening of the Seven Verses (f 15v-16v) marked by the text in French 'les sept vers sainct bernard', Bernard is depicted in a miniature, nimbed and wearing white tunic and black scapular. He holds a golden crozier in his right hand and an open book in his left and looks up at the much smaller half-figure of the Virgin in the sky. The Virgin bares her right breast which she squeezes with her left hand. The background is blue with a thin red and gold border.
