Description:
Full-page miniature within a golden frame in a Book of Hours (Use of Rome) painted in 1531 in Antwerp by Antonius van Damme, on the opposite folio to the beginning of the Seven Verses of Bernard in Latin. A nimbed Bernard in a white cowl kneels before a crucifix and receives the blood-stained body of Christ with his hands detached from the cross. The scene is a church with an altar in the background. Bernard's gold crozier with sudarium attached lies on the ground. Bernard has 'tuft'.
