Description:
Latin Book of Hours (Use of Paris) dated 1500-10. Among Memoriae, miniature of Bernard within gold frame. He is nimbed, in a white cowl, and holds a devil on a gold chain in a rocky landscape. The text reads: 'Monachorum diadema Bernardi piissime nostra defer in excelso vota pio iudice ut tuo adipiscamur sancto patrocinio jam exacto vitae cursu delictorum' ('The precious jewel of monks, our holy Bernard, take into the heavens our desires to the holy judge that we may be strengthened by your holy patronage when we have finished the course and may gain the remission of our sins').
